I awoke this morning to the sad news of Gene Wilder's passing.
I have loved this man's comedy and heart since I was a teenager and still proudly count several of his movies among my favourites.
If you've never seen a Gene Wilder movie, there are a few places I'd recommend to begin.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a wonderful family favourite and if you've only seen the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory adaptation with Johnny Depp, you are beyond missing out and you need to fix that ASAP.
Young Frankenstein is another good place to start, especially if you like a little bit of absurdist comedy. Once seen, never forgotten.
My personal favourite and the one I recommend above all; however, is The Producers. This is another one where if you've only seen the newer version, go back and educate yourself. Gene Wilder as Leo Bloom is basically perfection.
Gene Wilder. The world was made better by your existence. Thank you.
