I'm not really one for reading thriller novels but I do really love watching a good one every now and then.
Last week I got around to one that has been on my radar for quite awhile, Along Came a Spider (2001).
Along Came a Spider follows detective Alex Cross, played by the wonderful Morgan Freeman and secret service agent Jezzie Flannigan (Monica Potter) as they try to find Megan (Mika Boorem), a senator's daughter who has been kidnapped by a man (Michael Wincott) who posed as her teacher for two years prior to the crime.
Not the most original crime thriller plot you'll have heard of but a decent enough premise and like most thrillers, there is a twist.
For me, where this movie stood out was the casting and writing of the young girl. Megan is small, she is scared but she rarely acts the victim. She is strong, brave and determined and I loved watching her keep her head in impossible situations. She attempts to escape several times in truly ingenues ways and it was a pleasure to watch.
If you like the odd thriller film and haven't seen Along Came a Spider, its not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
