For reason's I'm not particularly clear on I've seen multiple films that revolve around crocodiles.
Some have been horror/thrillers some have been survival films but the one I watched most recently was more of a homage to the classic creature film.
Lake Placid is a 1999 movie starring Bill Pullman and a 30 foot man eating croc among others.
I remember hearing an odd amount of hype surrounding this movie when it originally came out but I was still surprised to learn it spawned 3 sequels and a cross over film with the Anaconda franchise.
Personally, I didn't quite see what all the fuss was about.
The movie had some okay moments. A few laughs, a few frights and a twist or two but I just didn't find it overly special.
I did like that it played a little on the classic creature film concept but I didn't think it took it quite far enough. There were some super over the top moments and some that were much more restrained, bordering on average, making for a bit of a confusing mix.
In all, if you're tempted to check out this accidental sub genre of crocodile movies, I would try Black Water (2007). A much more serious and extremely tense movie but one I enjoyed more than the strange romp that was Lake Placid.
