I just got back from seeing the Ab Fab movie and I've been trying to get my thoughts in order all the way home but I think what this movie comes down to is, if you're a fan of the series, this is a lot of fun and should definitely be watched; however, if you're new to the franchise then steer well clear.
This is not made to be enjoyed or understood by those new to the topsy tervy world of Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone.
The movie is filled with cameos and inside jokes. It is a nostalgic wonderland of the past 24 years since Ab Fab began and for that I kind of loved it.
Considering this is a movie version of a beloved TV series, I thought this did pretty damn well but by regular movie standards it may have been lacking somewhat.
The highlights of the film for me included but are not limited to, the return of Eddie's mad PA, Bubble, Jon Hamm's cameo, and Saffy's explosion of expletives.
Beyond all, it's a near miracle that the wonderful Jennifer Saunders sat down long enough to get the script finished, so for that alone I'm going to call this a success.
Just remember, this is not the place to start your Absolutely Fabulous education. Take yourself back to 1992 and watch from the beginning if you want to understand why a self centered fashion victim and her alcoholic (mostly plastic at this point) best friend have become something of an institution.
