I finally got around to watching the 2015 live action remake of Cinderella.
I am not the biggest Cinderella fan and I'm definitely wary of remakes but I have to say I'm glad I finally gave this a try.
If you're familiar with the 1950 animation you basically know what to expect. The new movie captures the feel of the original only with a lot more backstory and character development.
Originally the draw card for me was the inclusion of Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter in the cast but oddly enough I ended up thinking they contributed to the weaker aspects of the film.
Don't get me wrong their performances were not the problem it was more the fact that they were portraying the two most theatrical and over the top of the characters from the animation and neither of them managed the transition to live action with as much success as the others.
This film definitely had it's problems but I enjoyed it far more than I was anticipating. Chances are, I will watch this again at some point.
P.S - Downton Abbey fans will be happy to see Rose (Lily James) and Daisy (Sophie McShera) playing such prominent roles.
