Ever wonder who Queen Victoria's favourite artist was? Yeah. Probably not, but it's still quite interesting to know that it was Franz Winterhalter.
Winterhalter was a German painter who specialised in royal portraiture. The painting shown above is from 1843 and depicts Leonilla Bariatinskaia Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn.
I would assume that Victoria came across Winterhalter through her German husband Albert but I am just speculating at this point. Definitely something I'd like to look into more in the future though.
