Back to the Disney top 3 lists for Film Friday this week and I'm going to be sharing my top 3 Disney animal films.
There are so many to choose from but I narrowed it down by only choosing animal movies where the characters exist in the same world as humans, so that excludes movies like Zootopia and Robin Hood, both of which may have made this list otherwise.
My first favourite is Lady and the Tramp (1955). I adore this movie. The songs, the characters, the animation. It all works for me. It's also one I like to watch around Christmas time since the movie both begins and ends around that time of year. If you haven't seen it or haven't seen it in awhile, I recommend giving it a watch.
Next up another dog movie, The 101 Dalmatians (1961). This is another where it just all comes together beautifully for me. I especially love the art for the backgrounds and scenery in this one. It doesn't hurt that it's based on a Dodie Smith book but I've loved this one much longer than I've loved the incomparable, Smith, so there's that. Also have to say that the animated version is infinitely better than the live action remake, so If that's the only one you've seen, you should fix that post-haste!
Lastly, I've gone with The Rescuers (1977). This wasn't always a favourite of mine. As a kid I actually probably preferred the sequel set in Australia but the more I see this the more charming it becomes. Bernard and Bianca are such sweet little protagonists and the music and the animation completely capture me. Definitely one to watch with tissues if you're the sensitive type; although, as with most Disney films, there is a happy ending waiting for you.
So that's it, my top 3 Disney movies centered around animals. What would yours be?
