I've had Disney movies on the brain since seeing the studios latest offering, Zootopia recently. So I thought I would share with you some top three animated Disney films lists over the next few weeks. Each list will include a different category.
Today we're talking Disney Princess films.
In no particular order, here are my three favourites.
First up, I have to go with the original, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). If my younger self knew I was choosing Snow White as a favourite, she would be horrified. I liked Snow White well enough as a kid but I definitely got bored and turned it off before the end more than once.
Watching this movie as an adult is an entirely different experience though. Historically, this movie has my heart. I love the animation, I love Snow White's crazy high pitching singing voice, I love The Evil Queen, I love the dark atmosphere. I even love the (more than a little creepy) Dwarfs. Snow White has become a movie I crave to re-watch.
Next up we're skipping ahead twenty plus years for, Sleeping Beauty (1959).
Now, Sleeping Beauty was a favourite of mine when I was younger and has remained that way ever since. I know some people who can't stand this one but honestly, Disney fans disliking this movie baffles me.
Sleeping Beauty has Phillip, my favourite prince. It has a seriously fantastic villain in Maleficent. It has great songs, fun comic relief moments and some of my favourite Disney animation ever.
Sleeping Beauty gets my vote every time.
For my last pick, I was tempted to go with Beauty and the Beast but I think I'm actually going to go with Tangled (2010) this time.
Watching Tangled for the first time, I had next to no expectations. I had been mostly disappointed by a lot of the modern Disney films, especially the ones without ties to Pixar so I really wasn't expecting much but this retelling of the Rapunzel fairytale was so much fun.
It took me back to earlier Disney retellings and for that alone, it remains a favourite.
