As I've previously mentioned, I've been in the process of reorganising my books. Within that process I've been taking time to flick through some old favourites and in doing so I came across my little Dodie Smith collection.
Most of you probably know of Dodie Smith for her wonderful novel, I Capture the Castle and some of you probably for her children's book, The Hundred and One Dalmatians (although, the Disney films are certainly more widely known these days) but did you know that the inspiration for the book came from her own beloved dalmatian?
She even named the main character after her much pampered pet, Pongo.
Supposedly the original seed of the idea was planted after a friend of hers callously made comment on how nice a dalmatian fur coat would look, and the rest, as they say, is history.
