Last night I had the pleasure of seeing John Cleese and Eric Idle live on stage, so I thought for today's Trivia Tuesday post I would share five of my favourite Monty Python facts.
). The Japanese translated title for Monty Python and The Holy Grail was actually Monty Python and The Holy Sake Cup. Not quite the same ring to it, perhaps.
). On the set of Life of Brian, Graham Chapman not only played the title character but also acted as set doctor, dealing with any injuries and illnesses that cropped up.
). Everyone knows that "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition" but turns out The Spanish Inquisition would actually give you ample warning before they would 'inquire', as it were, so...?
). When coming up with the name for their original sketch comedy show Arthur Buzzard’s Flying Circus, Admiral Megapode’s Flying Circus, John Cleese’s Flying Circus, El Moists’ Flying Circus and Cynthia Fellatio’s Flying Circus were all considered. Not bad options but glad they settled on Monty Python's Flying Circus.
). The killer rabbit in The Holy Grail appeared in the film with strict instructions that nothing should happen to it during filming, and don't worry nothing did, apart from the red dye they used to simulate blood, staining the pretty little white rabbit's fur. The owner, apparently, was not at all impressed. I'd like to think they lightened up somewhat when they saw the finished film.
